Today's class is part of our 'space' theme for June. We will practice at a slower pace than usual to weave deep mindfulness into our movement. This focused attention helps us feel the temporary tension in our muscles during a pose, which directly unlocks a sense of deep space in the release that follows.

I always find that time spent working on freedom of movement in the ribcage and thoracic spine leads to a lovely feeling of ease and comfort. It has so many benefits too, from improving our posture to helping us breathe more efficiently. When we are less stiff in this area, it is also less likely that neighbouring joints will be forced to overwork.

The upper back, neck and shoulders are common areas of tension for so many of us. The sequencing in this practice aims to promote blood flow to these muscles, as well as introducing some lovely stretches to reduce tightness and leave us feeling looser in this area of the body.

The breath is the fuel for our movement, delivering oxygen to our cells, awakening the muscles, and bringing energy to the body. Today, we'll work on linking our breathing with deep core activation to build steady, effortless stability.

Today we'll use our yoga strap to focus on overhead shoulder mobility. We'll move in ways that help our shoulder blades glide smoothly, releasing tightness in the upper back and creating a lighter, more open feeling in the shoulder girdle.

Supple Side Body - 31 mins

For many of us, our daily routines are dominated by forward and backward movements. To bring some balance back to the body, today’s practice shines a spotlight on the entire lateral line from the side core all the way down to the outer hips. We'll include plenty of sideways movement and stretches to leave the side body strong and supple.

Our glutes and hamstrings take centre stage today. These muscles provide propulsion and springiness to our movements, so get ready to fire them up and put a spring in your step!
